Our History

One of the largest electrical contractors in the greater New Orleans area, Frischhertz Electric Company traces its origins back to a long and narrow one-room office on a shady block on Banks Street in Mid-City. In 1951, Bernard C. Frischhertz, Sr., who was already an experienced electrician at Avondale Shipyards, decided to go into business for himself. His two brothers invested and helped out part time. Eventually, Bernard hired his daughter Joan to handle the bookkeeping and manage the office.

As word of Bernard’s talent, integrity, and devotion to his customers spread, demand grew for the company’s services. More electricians and support staff came into the Frischhertz fold. Bernard’s three sons, Bernard Jr., Jim and Steve, joined the firm in the 1960’s and took over management of the company after the elder Frischhertz’s death in 1975. Bernard, Jr. assumed the role of president until his passing in 1991.  Jim and Steve, currently lead the firm where they first worked during summers off from school.   Still based in Mid-City, the company long ago outgrew the original two-desk office space.   Now their headquarters encompass an entire city block and employ over 250 people. Frischhertz serves clients across a wide geographic area, from outside Baton Rouge to the Mississippi border.  Bernard’s legacy lives on in the values that he instilled in his sons and company; values that still guide it today—his ethics of hard work, quality job performance, and accountability.

Frischhertz Electric prides itself on being a family owned and operated company. There are now six grandchildren of Bernard C Frischhertz, Sr. actively working in the company, all born and raised in New Orleans, reinforcing the firm’s strong local ties and commitment to the community.  The attitude of family also extends to the many Frischhertz employees who remain an important and dedicated asset to the company and contribute to its longevity and success.
